About right° and the XDC-Model:

right° is a pioneer at the intersection of technology, science and strategic decision-making. Our XDC metric provides organisations with a scientifically grounded method to understand and steer their climate impact in a way that is economically relevant and directly actionable, expressed as a temperature value in degrees Celsius.

The XDC-Model sits at the heart of our work. It translates the emissions profile of a company, a real estate asset or a financial portfolio into a temperature outcome, bridging climate science, economics and the practical needs of corporate governance, investment decision-making and regulatory reporting.

As the relevance of our methodology grows, and as AI increasingly shapes how scientific work is done, we are looking for someone who brings genuine scientific authority to this role: a person who does not just apply methods, but understands them deeply, takes responsibility for them, and can defend them to the outside world.

Your Mission:

You take methodological responsibility for the next stage of development of the XDC-Model. This is not primarily about building things yourself. It is about asking the right questions, evaluating results with independent scientific judgement, making and owning decisions, and representing the methodology credibly to external audiences.

In practice, this means:

• Systematic review and further development of the XDC methodology
• Initiating and leading a peer review or comparable scientific validation process
• Structured revision and ongoing maintenance of the scientific documentation
• Translating methodological requirements into clear specifications for our engineering team
• Critically evaluating model outputs, including those generated with AI assistance
• Identifying opportunities for improvement and further development, grounded in science and relevant to practice
• Contributing to the development of the XDC-Model as an open-source project
• Acting as a methodological sparring partner for the founding team, product and engineering

AI and this role:

AI changes how scientific work is done today, and that shapes this role. We are not looking for someone to build everything from scratch. We are looking for a scientific authority who can lead AI as a tool: someone who understands what the model does, and who can critically evaluate and take responsibility for AI-assisted outputs.

You work at the intersection of Climate Science, Economics, Software, Corporate Governance, Regulation, and AI-assisted Methods.

What we offer:

• Impact: A central role with real methodological ownership and influence.
• Compensation: Fair pay with a long-term perspective.
• Challenge: Direct sparring with the founding team.
• Substance over show: A company that has grown through bootstrapping.
• Relevance: The opportunity to shape a scientifically credible model that matters.
• Perspective: Co-designing an open-source standard for climate impact assessment.
• Tools: Full access to AI tools as part of your daily work.

Who we are looking for:

We are not looking for a conventional specialist. We are looking for a mature, analytically exceptional individual with real substance: someone who combines scientific depth with sound judgement about the practical context in which the XDC-Model operates, across corporate strategy, real estate, and investment.

1. Professional Background

Essential:
• Scientific judgement. Deep understanding in at least two of the following areas: climate science and climate modelling, environmental economics and macroeconomics, sustainable finance and impact measurement, quantitative modelling.
• External credibility. Experience with peer review processes, as an author or reviewer. The ability to represent and defend methodological choices to a scientific and institutional audience.
• Validation experience. Structured model validation at a high level: backtesting, sensitivity analysis, scenario testing, and rigorous documentation of assumptions and limitations.
• Science to decision. Ability to translate complex model logic into clear engineering specifications, and into outputs that non-expert audiences can use to make decisions.

Strongly preferred:
• Contextual fluency. Understanding of how climate impact models are used in practice: by companies managing their transition strategy, by real estate investors assessing asset performance, and by financial institutions screening portfolios. Depth in one of these contexts is more valuable than shallow coverage of all three.
• Regulatory awareness. Familiarity with CSRD, ESRS, SFDR or comparable frameworks, as a practitioner or as a researcher who has engaged with their implications.

New: AI capability:
• Leading AI as a tool. Active use of AI tools in scientific and analytical work, combined with the ability to critically evaluate AI-generated outputs, identify errors, and take ownership of decisions.
• No implementation requirement. Python and quantitative programming are a plus, but not a prerequisite. Someone who understands the methodology deeply can implement and verify with AI assistance. What cannot be substituted is scientific judgement.

2. Personal qualities

• Cognitive depth and structural thinking
• Confidence without arrogance: the ability to hold a position without needing to defend it
• Communication strength across science, engineering and decision-making contexts
• Perseverance and intrinsic motivation
• Genuine enjoyment of building something with lasting substance
• Ambition to make a difference

Experience:

We are looking for someone with 10 to 20 years of professional experience who thinks both analytically and strategically. You do not need to come from the startup world. But you need to want to match its energy and pace.

Location and Way of Working:

Frankfurt am Main. Hybrid working is possible, but methodological leadership requires substantial in-person presence. right° is a small, close-knit team where personal contact is a genuine working tool, not a bonus.

How to Apply:

If this speaks to you, please send us:
• Your CV
• Selected references
• A short written reflection (max. 1 page): How should a scientifically robust and practically useful climate impact model be validated?

A note on the reflection:
The reflection is an integral part of how we evaluate applications. Not as a formality, but as a window into how you think scientifically. Applications that show genuine engagement with the XDC-Model will stand out.

We look forward to hearing from you.
